Hi guys! How's your summer going? I am looking forward to my trip to Costa Rica at the end of the month. I will be visiting a rainforest and volcano. I'm still trying to find the courage to zip line through the rainforest. Should I do it???
Well, as you know my laptop was in bad shape. I had to turn it in (yikes!), so I haven't been able to download a lot of the pictures from our recent events........I managed to borrow a Mac (which I love!!) and will be posting some really cool pictures of all of you.
As promised, I've opened the comment boxes for you to add comments. Please be careful what you write. You never want to put your last names or anything personal like your phone numbers and emails. Go ahead and practice adding comments. This would be a great way to keep up with your writing skills.
I hope you are reading something, anything this summer. Remember the Barnes and Noble form I gave you? If you misplaced it, you can always go in the store and get it. I read different reviews of books all the time, so I may be posting some suggestions. You can always share what you are reading too!!
I will be blogging some more soon. Miss you guys!!!! <3

Personification thanks to Gloria Estefan
The students are learning about PERSONIFICATION. Today, I read them, "The Magically Mysterious Adventures of Noelle the Bulldog," by Gloria Estefan. There were a lot of talking animals in this book! Mrs. Ryan is covering GLORIA ESTEFAN'S Biography. Who would have know that she was not only a singer, but an author too!
This story also taught students that we are not failures! We all have something we're good at. Noelle finally figured out his strengths and helped his friends through some tough times. This song, "Been Wishin'" was written by Gloria Estefan and it comes with the book. Check it out:

FIGURATIVE LANGUAGE
Today I read "Sylvester and the Magic Pebble" by William Steig. Everyone was so anxious to hear what was going to happen next. They were predicting, looking for picture clues, and answering comprehension questions. At the end, we discussed the figurative language they heard in the story. For example, "It was flaming red, shiny, and perfectly round, like a marble." Here, Sylvester is comparing his rock to a marble. This is a SIMILE because there is a comparison of two things and the word "like" is used.
