FIGURATIVE LANGUAGE
Today I read "Sylvester and the Magic Pebble" by William Steig. Everyone was so anxious to hear what was going to happen next. They were predicting, looking for picture clues, and answering comprehension questions. At the end, we discussed the figurative language they heard in the story. For example, "It was flaming red, shiny, and perfectly round, like a marble." Here, Sylvester is comparing his rock to a marble. This is a SIMILE because there is a comparison of two things and the word "like" is used.
